Programme Director of Bermuda Broadcasting Company Darlene Ming has confirmed that most of the football World Cup matches will be carried live on Channel 7, starting on May 31 with the opening ceremony and concluding with the June 30 final.

"The Bermuda Broadcasting company holds the exclusive rights to the World Cup in Bermuda. Yes, we will be airing about 52 of, I think, a possible 62 matches. However, because of the time difference, all of the programming is overnight," said Ming yesterday.

The World Cup, held every four years by football's world governing body, FIFA, is being jointly hosted by Japan and South Korea which are 12 hours ahead of Bermuda. This means that many matches will be broadcast in the early morning, noted Ming.

"We will be confirming all the details next week. There is an official schedule which is subject to some revision so we are waiting on the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) for the final roster," she said.
