Douglas runs in Euro track meet

Sprinter Troy Douglas will try to shrug off the disappointment of two weekends ago when he lines up for the 60 metres at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna, Austria, today.

The Bermudian, who now represents the Netherlands, is down to run in the fourth of five heats for the short sprint. The 39-year-old, running in lane two, has a season-best of 6.72 seconds in the event. He will be hoping to compensate for his mishap in Birmingham, England, two Sundays ago when he was left in the starting blocks after a mix-up over a new starting system. Instead of the usual gun, organisers used a beeper to sound the start.

Douglas thought the beep was signalling a false start and, by the time he realised what had happened, the 60-metre race was virtually over.
