Battle to avoid Premier drop at boiling point
With all eyes focussed on league title contenders North Village, things are no less intriguing at the other end of the spectrum as several teams battle to avoid relegation.
While Village could wrap up the title today, it could be safe to assume that the pressure is off somewhat for Dandy Town and Boulevard, nestled in third and fourth spot respectively.
However, the same cannot be said for Devonshire Colts, Somerset Trojans, PHC and Somerset Eagles - teams all fighting for survival coming down the final stretch.
For Zebras, things are really looking bleak. Coming off a 5-1 humbling at the expense of Cougars only four days ago, Mark Wade's troops have hardly had time to regain their breath and now face an even hungrier Village team at Bernard Park tomorrow.
Zebras, anchored at the bottom of the pile, managed to pick up their first league win since October 27 against Boulevard last Sunday (3-0), but the midweek loss to Cougars has now left the club praying for maximum points against Village and Colts in the hopes that their nearest rivals slip up.
But even more interesting, is the fact that PHC and Colts do battle in the final meeting of the season on March 2.
At Somerset Cricket Club, round two of the west end derby between Eagles and Trojans is set to unravel, but this time with relegation added to the equation - just for added spice!
Both teams know what is at stake and a loss for either could be deemed catastrophic.
Colts and Town, meanwhile, have had their match put back to Wednesday night at the Den, while Cougars and Boulevard slugged it out at BAA Field last night.
Looking ahead to First Division action, leaders Hamilton Parish should continue their smooth journey toward wrapping up the championship against lowly Paget at Lord's. Though Peppers were held to their third draw of the season against St.David's last weekend, they should not encounter too much trouble against the league's perennial bottom-dwellers.
However, while Parish remain on cruise control, the race for the second promotion spot continues to heat up with Prospect, Ireland Rangers and Southampton Rangers all zooming in on the coveted prize.
Second placed Southampton host St.David's at Southampton Oval while St.George's clash with Prospect at Lord's (3 p.m.). Young Men's Social and Wolves square off against each other at Bernard Park.

Rude Girls 3 Hem. Royals 1
Rude Girls pulled out all the stops in the second-half coming from 1-0 down to defeat Hemisphere Royals 3-1 during last night's opening women's contest at BAA Field.
Royals led 1-0 at the half thanks to a goal from Viera Goretti after only 28 minutes. But thanks to second-half strikes from Chevonne Furbert, Sakena Clarke and Cheyra Bell, Rude Girls secured another impressive win.
