Player contracts delayed
Bermuda Cricket Board have confirmed that the Island?s senior cricketers will all sign semi-professional contracts as soon as they return from the tour to Dubai.
BCB chief executive Neil Speight said yesterday that they had originally hoped to have the contracts signed before the squad?s departure tomorrow ? but the documents were still being vetted by lawyers.
Speight insisted, however, that those selected for the upcoming games against the United Arab Emirates would all receive match fees and performance-related bonuses despite not having put pen to paper.
?The contracts we are putting together are comprehensive and extremely detailed and it is important that we give our lawyers time to check them through thoroughly,? he said.
?But the players going to Dubai are assured of the same financial benefits they would receive as contracted players and they will receive the money upon their return.
?We would have liked to have had everybody signed up before the tour but it is important for all concerned that we get everything right and do not rush things. We are on the edge of a new and exciting era in Bermuda cricket and it is incumbent on the Board to act professionally and follow due process.?
Meanwhile, national coach Gus Logie told that there were no injury concerns ahead of the nine-day Middle East trip, which will see Bermuda play five friendly games against UAE ? two of which will be played under lights in Sharjah.
While the schedule is already packed, the Trinidadian intends to use the four rest days for yet more net practice as well as intensive physical work.
?This will be the first time this year I?ve had a group of players together for an extended time and we need to make the most of it,? he said.
?When we are at home and the players are working it is difficult to get them together as one group consistently so time away is going to be crucial.
?All the players are fit and ready to go and are looking forward to the challenge.?
