Stormy weather ahead for runners

The already hilly International Race Weekend marathon course could become even more arduous this Sunday as storm force gusts are forecasted to batter runners on their way round the 13 mile circuit.

The traditional arrival of bad weather to greet the showpiece athletics event is likely again with thunder expected tomorrow to coincide with the KMPG Front Street Mile and then gale force winds and showers, along with storm force gusts, for Sunday.

Saturday?s 10K, however, appears to be safe from the inclement weather with sunny periods predicted.

Total numbers for this weekend?s event have now passed the 600 mark, with 605 expected to take part over the three days of competition ? and late entries are still available.

The latest figures have revealed 605 taking part, 68 walkers, 189 for the 10K, 251 for the Half-marathon and 97 for the marathon.

Late entries are permitted up to the day before each race with number pick up at the Harbour Room, Number One Passenger Terminal, from 4pm to 7pm today and tomorrow and noon to 2pm on Saturday.
