Thrilled by Bermuda

April 4, 2005

Dear Sir,

Recently we had the pleasure of staying in Bermuda at the delightful Munro Beach Cottages sheltered by the Port Royal Golf course receiving daily a complimentary copy of The Royal Gazette courtesy of "Dashing Dawn" and "Vvroom Vroom Valerie"! We thoroughly enjoyed the paper, especially the international news, local news, the most exciting reinsurance news! (Does it go on like this all the time in Bermuda?), and of course the lively Letters to the Editor (especially those from your Anglican Readers).

We would like to take the opportunity of specifically thanking Penny of Mrs. T's Victorian Tea Room', so conveniently located at the bottom of the hilly road wending through the beautiful Port Royal golf course for her always warm welcome and her kind offer to lend Zena some of her cardigans if required! Our thanks too, to all the other restaurants in Hamilton, St. George and Dockyard for their fine cuisine.

Now the main purpose of our letter is to give special thanks for an extraordinary "Sherlockian Holmes" type feat carried out by Mrs. Bean and her team of "Happy Helpers" at the Hamilton Library who so courageously stepped forward to our aid through an extreme crisis. Between the Library, the Police Stations, Ian McNabb and the two lovely ladies who took the Police loss Report and the two traffic supervisors at the Bus Terminal who also helped us in our extremity! Thank you all once again. We could not have returned to Canada at that time without you!

We had a monthly bus and ferry Pass (good deal!) which we used extensively!

What heroes and heroines your lady and gentlemen bus drivers are to cope so confidentially and casually with the narrow roads and feisty Bermudian Traffic! (Even the lady learning to drive the Dockyard bus was completely calm and confident!) What a lovely greeting it is when Bermudians stepping on to the bus turn around and say "good morning everybody" before they sit down. We as visitors to Bermuda really felt included! Never ever in these busy times give up such a beautiful old world courtesy.

We were very impressed taking the Rockaway Ferry to Hamilton to see a member of the crew having completed his arrival and departure and other duties to be sitting by himself quietly completing his Daily Bible Study. So at this time we in turn like him, Thank the Lord for so wonderfully having the good people of Bermuda intervene on our behalf in what would have been a most serious loss!
