VISITOR'S VIEW
Shocked by closure
March 10, 2005
Dear Sir,
A real shocker!
Truth is certainly stranger than fiction. Who in their right mind ten years ago would have predicted the present changes in the Bermuda retail sector?
As a frequent visitor to your friendly and beautiful island for more than 40 years, I had difficulty comprehending the news about Trimingham's/Smiths ? and the numerous consequences for the entire Bermuda community [and visitors.
Change is inevitable in the modern world of ours, but the changes Bermuda has experienced is startling. The "Golden Age" of Tourism in Bermuda is certainly over.
Just two small points to ponder ? where oh where are "locals going to buy their underwear and how will the Press make up for all the lost advertising revenue?
Will you have ATM's from Queen Street to who knows where?
