Acting Magistrate Carlisle Greaves gave a Devonshire man the benefit of the doubt in Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Jevon Bean, 28, of Stadium Heights Road, appeared in court to answer to the charge of assaulting a Police officer. He pleaded not guilty, calling the accusation “idiot talk”.

When the possibility of his being remanded into custody until a trial after the Christmas holidays arose, Bean voiced strong dissent and insisted he was trustworthy.

Time in court was found for Bean's trial tomorrow, but the possibility of being remanded until that date remained.

Bean called on Mr. Greaves to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one”, adding that he wanted to go home and see his family, and had gained the consent of another member of the court to pick him up in time for his court date.

Mr. Greaves then decided that Bean, after paying a $500 bail, would be free to go until his trial began.
