Bascome, Burgess appointed fire marshals

Fire marshall: Maxwell Burgess

The danger of all our politicians going up in smoke is to be counteracted by an impromptu fire drill in Parliament ? although the time and the date are being kept a secret.

Chairwoman of the House and Grounds Committee Jennifer Smith announced in the House of Assembly on Friday that concerns have been raised about the high fire risk of the Sessions House given the old wooden staircases and large quantities of paper.

A new fire action plan has now been formulated while Sergeant-at -Arms Albert Fox and MPs Nelson Bascome and Maxwell Burgess have been appointed as fire marshals.

When the fire alarm sounds, MPs have been instructed to make their way to the front staircase of the Sessions House and assemble in the Magistrates' Court car park where a head count will be taken.
