Waves churned up by hurricane Olga continued to batter the North Shore yesterday, but gave no indication of whether the storm system that developed over the weekend will pose a substantial threat to Bermuda.

As of presstime last night Olga was over 400 miles East of the Island and moving North at 7 mph. Forecasters said that its movement continued to be erratic, making accurate predictions impossible.

Still forecasters expect it to change course and start heading south.

Olga, which has maximum sustained winds of 80 knots gusting up to 100 knots, is expected to be 375 miles off the Island by Friday.

The Bermuda Weather Service says it is still a potential threat to Bermuda, but last night downgraded a gale warning to a small craft warning.

But he warned: "You can't really discount it till it's gone."
