A drugs mule was jailed for 18 months yesterday in Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to importing $4,120 worth of cocaine and heroin.

Satonjee Devent Joell, 26, of Pearman's Hill, Warwick, was picked up by authorities at the Bermuda airport on February 9 after a two week trip abroad.

A search of his luggage found nothing but he was arrested and taken to hospital for an x-ray and later passed 11 pellets containing the drugs.

At Hamilton Police Station on February 11 he said he had paid $500 for the drugs in Baltimore. Government analysts found $3,200 worth of cocaine and $920 worth of heroin.

At an earlier hearing Joell pleaded guilty to importing the two drugs but he had denied two counts of possession with intent to supply.

Yesterday Joell changed his plea and said he was guilty on all four counts.

He was given 18 months for importing cocaine and heroin and fined $5,000 for possession with intent to supply the two drugs.
