Health Minister Patrice Minors has defended the $450,000 paid out to overseas hospital consultants, describing the controversial Government investment as "good value".

Ms Minors was responding to claims by her UBP counterpart Michael Dunkley, in Monday's Royal Gazette, that the sum paid to Kurron for managing the Island's hospitals and helping review them was a "waste of money" and that the recommendations made in the report were obvious.

"There are significant recommendations coming out of this report," said Ms Minors, in defence of the hefty sums paid to the overseas company when it was brought in earlier this year by Health Ministry predecessor Nelson Bascome.

"The document that was produced contains a lot of information; $450,000 may seem to some to be a significant amount but we are going to put it to good value.

"We are seeking to advance the recommendations that have been made and we are looking to deal with the challenges the hospitals face."

She added that Cabinet would be discussing the proposals in the near future and looking to act on them.
