The Corporation of Hamilton last week received Planning permission to add another storey to the Bull's Head car park.

The Development Applications Board (DAB) approved the plans to add a fourth level to the parking lot as well as an additional entry and exit ramp accessing Elliott Street.

In granting permission the board directed that the area is to be landscaped within three months of the issuance of a Certificate of Use and Occupancy Permit.

"Any trees or shrubs which are removed, which die or which become seriously diseased or damaged shall be replaced by trees and shrubs of similar size and species to those originally to be planted," the DAB minutes from the November 13 meeting said.

The board has also asked that the Corporation undertake a traffic impact study "to determine whether any necessary corrections to the road system near the proposed development (are) required to overcome traffic delays".

"Such a report shall be prepared and presented to the board for its review detailing what revisions, if any, to the road system will be implemented," the board said.

And the Corporation has been asked to provide documents on the details of the construction within three months of receiving approval.

"The document shall contain the following, but not (be) limited to, where on site parking will take place during construction, what entrance and/or exit routes, if any, will be affected by construction, what impact will this have on surrounding road systems, what traffic plans have you developed to deal with the changes in the traffic system and how will a work programme address the future traffic improvements recommended by the City of Hamilton Transport Strategy," the board said.

The Corporation has also asked for permission to erect a sculpture of bulls at the site, and the DAB asked for more details on where the artwork would be positioned.

"The board wished to request of the applicant that it provide to the department, for its historical reference, a brief history analogy of the Bull's Head site," the minutes said.

Bull's Head parking lot originally opened in 1995. It was built at a cost of $5.5 million to provide an additional 700 parking spots within Hamilton.
