Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves spoke out against a recent media report yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

Local media reported that Mr. Greaves left Plea Court in the middle of the proceedings on Monday after Police officers were late bringing suspects to trial.

Mr. Greaves insisted that the actual reason he left was because there was no completed paperwork in front of him.

"I had nothing to do, so I adjourned (the proceeding). A Magistrate cannot `storm' out of his own court."

He said a notable historical figure went around the world healing people and performing small miracles but was eventually crucified despite all the good things he did.

He said: "I'm not a Messiah, I'm just trying to make a difference - but they write down the `bad mood' (comment). They don't want to publish good news, good news isn't news but bad news is news."

Mr. Greaves said: "It's better for Bermuda if you focus on the positive."

Mr. Greaves has brought some changes to Plea Court since his appointment as acting Senior Magistrate including shorter sessions, condensed charge sheets that allow him to know what a person is accused of without reading the summary of evidence, an 11.30 time slot for trials and shorter fine payment schedules.

Some attorneys call him "efficient".

Defence lawyer Llewellyn Peniston complimented Mr. Greaves on his efficiency yesterday morning, saying he "appreciated it".
