Man guilty of attacking senior in street

A man has admitted attacking a senior in the street on New Year’s Day.Alvin Leverock, 40, pleaded guilty at an arraignments session in Supreme Court to causing grievous bodily harm to 70-year-old Herndon Smith.The court heard the offence happened on New Year’s Day on Reid Street in Hamilton.The victim was found unconscious on the sidewalk near Washington Mall at about 11.30am that day. Police said at the time that Mr Smith had fallen after another man hit him in the face during an argument.Mr Smith had to be flown overseas for medical treatment.Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons adjourned the case until February 19 and remanded Leverock in custody.Jaha Mallory, who is alleged to have stabbed a man outside a Hamilton bar on Christmas Eve, also appeared at the session.Mr Mallory, 35, was charged with wounding Tio Smith with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place.He was not required to enter a plea at the hearing. The case was adjourned until March 2.Malachi Fox, 17, who is charged with robbery, wounding and possession of a bladed article in connection with the robbery of a pizza delivery man on January 8, also appeared.Mr Fox was not required to enter a plea and the case was adjourned until February 19. • It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
