Mechanical breakdowns at the old Devon Springs Recycling Centre have forced Government to dispose of some recyclables at the Airport Waste Treatment Facility, the Ministry of Works and Engineering announced yesterday.

The continued breakdowns have caused a backlog of non-sorted recyclables, the Ministry said. “These materials have the potential to create a health hazard and are occupying space needed for tipping new incoming recyclables.

“The removal is a short-term measure to alleviate the immediate situation, and every effort is being made to eliminate this problem swiftly and resume normal recycling activity.”

Thanking the public for their understanding, a Ministry spokesperson added the removal will not affect the normal collection of recyclables from households.

Short Senate session expected

Senators will meet today but with nothing on the agenda and the Throne Speech debate still ongoing in the House of Assembly, the meeting will be over in a few minutes unless someone decides to speak during the motion to adjourn.
