Two sailors were taken to hospital over the weekend after their ships diverted to Bermuda for medical emergencies.

The Panama-registered pipe-layer called Harbour Radio on Friday after a 27-year-old crewman suffered breathing difficulties. The ship was 280 miles south south-west of Bermuda and heading for Miami, but it diverted to the Island, arriving at 4 a.m. on Sunday. The man was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

And on Saturday afternoon, the sailboat , arrived at St. George?s after a 39-year-old crewman suffered diabetic problems. Harbour Radio set up a conference call with the hospital earlier in the day and a decision was taken to come to Bermuda, where the man was taken to King Edward VII.

Around 10.55 p.m. on Saturday, American Airlines flight 1444 from New York to Bermuda, landed with an unconscious UK national. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance for treatment.
