Senior citizens should play a crucial role in the Pembroke East Central by-election on November 26. Projecting from the 1991 census, about half of the voters in the district are middle aged or in their senior years.

According to the 1991 count, the district is also overwhelmingly black - with a total population of more than 2,600, 1,955 are Bermudians and 1,767 identified themselves as black.

As of January 2002 the district had 1,741 registered voters and based on the 1991 census, about three quarters of them are above the age of 30. In 1991, 277 of the Bermudians living in the district were senior citizens (over the age of 65), and another 314 were in the 50-64 age range. There were 252 forty to forty-nine year olds, and 378 people in their thirties.

A more accurate demographic profile is not available to the general public as the results of the latest census, taken in 2000, are yet to be released.
