New Tourism Minister Renee Webb said last night she has some new ideas to help revive the industry and will not be forced to rigidly follow the path set by the late David Allen.

Ms Webb told The Royal Gazette the vision for turning tourism around remains the same, but she will be taking a fresh look at how this can be achieved.

And she shot down suggestions that she was only offered the job by Premier Jennifer Smith on condition she did not change any of Mr. Allen's policies.

"That wasn't even discussed.

"Its not realistic to tell a Minister what to do like that," she said.

Ms Webb, who took up the post last Tuesday, which she will combine with her existing Telecommunications and E-Commerce portfolio, said she already had a number of new ideas, but it was too early to disclose them or go into detail.

But the policy of using the joint public-private sector Bermuda Alliance for Tourism (BAT) - designed to ensure Government and industry strategies and marketing are in sync - will continue, she said.

"The vision is the same.

"How we approach it will be different in terms of how we turn around tourism, which is a goal we all share," she said.

"It is a joint effort, not just of Government and the Ministry, but of the industry as well.

"The joint collaboration policy will continue, but I will bring my own approach to things.

"There are a number of things I am considering in various different areas, but there is only so much you can do in such a short period of time.

"But I will put my stamp on it.

"The vision of turning around tourism is the same.

"How we get there is something we will look at on an ongoing basis based on the information that comes in."
