Combined conferences will be 'world class'
The Education Eden Project Conference Expo will be one of the most exciting events of the year, Hamilton Rotarians were told yesterday.
Speaking at the organisation's weekly lunch at the Tuscany Restaurant yesterday, senior education officer Maxine Esdaille said the event, to take place at CedarBridge Academy next Friday and Saturday would be "the most exciting event in the month of October".
The theme for this year's event, which is combining both the Eden Project Environmental Exposition and the Education Conference, is 'We are the World'.
"Since both the events were due to take place in October, we decided 'since we can't beat them, let's join them' and decided to collaborate and hold both events at the same time and at the same venue," said Ms Esdaille, employed by the Ministry of Education and Development and a member of the organising committee for the events.
"We in education have taken on this theme and our focus will be on showing that not only are 'We are the World' but that 'We are World Class'.
"We will showcase persons who represent the world class doctors, world class educators, world class screenwriters, world class TV producers, world class sportsmen, world class business people, world class technicians - all of whom are graduates of the public education system."
She said that Premier Alex Scott would officially open the event on Saturday morning with fun, festivities and food going on until the evening.
Workshops for parents, educators and young people will also take place.
The day will also see young people attempt to build a replica of the Great Wall of China, there will be a visit by two indigenous people from a South American rain forest and there will be a series of films about the ocean, animals and evolution shown throughout the day, she said.
"Next weekend the community has the opportunity to see in one place the best of both education and the environment in our local community," she added.
"Through workshops, films, interactive and fun activities they will see that in Bermuda we do have access to the world, we do impact on the world, 'We are the World' and we are indeed world class."
