Government's official register of Bermudians will be on display in all 14 Island post offices for a two month period beginning October 12.

Chief Immigration Officer Martin Brewer told The Royal Gazette that the register must be periodically presented to the public in order for people to challenge names registered as Bermudian, to correct any errors and for the purposes of updating the list.

Dr. Brewer said the Bermudian Status by Birth or Grant Register Act 1992 calls for the register to be displayed when a certain number of new additions have been received.

He said he was unsure when the register was last presented to the public but he believed most of the 45,000-odd Bermudians are on the list.

Both children born to Bermudians and people who have been granted status will be among the new entries in the register.

Copies will be placed in post offices on Friday and remain on display until December 12.

The public are encouraged to look over the list for errors or names which should not be on the list but Dr. Brewer said addresses are listed only for the purpose of identification and Immigration does not need to be notified of address changes.

Dr. Brewer added parents are responsible for registering their children's birth with the department.

A separate list of Bermudians known to be deceased is kept in the back of the register and the public is encouraged to consult this list and notify Immigration of any errors or omissions as well.
