In Brief

Wine lovers can do their bit to help animals ? thanks to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The SPCA?s ?Sideways? Wine Tasting evening on Saturday, October 15 is based on the popular movie about two men who embark on a wine-tasting tour.

The event will be held between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m on the grounds of Fidelity International at Crow Lane, Pembroke.

Profits will go to the SPCA. Tickets priced at $30 per person can be picked up from All Wrapped Up in the Washington Mall, Hamilton.

In addition, La Coquille Restaurant at the BUEI has offered attendees a special three-course dinner menu for $39.75 per person, for which advance reservations are recommended.

Children have been invited to ?Dabble in Disaster? during a five-day educational Explorer?s Camp hosted by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. The hands-on experience, beginning on October 24 for children aged seven to 13, focuses on marine-related disasters involving geological forces such as volcanoes, earthquakes, underwater avalanches and meteor impacts.

The youngsters will be taught about issues such as hurricanes, tornadoes, water spouts, global warming and sea-level rise.

They will also be given important information on how some of these problems can affect Bermuda and how to predict, prepare and act on them. Further information is available on the website www.buei.org or by calling the BUEI Education Department on 297-7296. Application forms are available from at the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI.
