Wanted: Hurricane Fabian heroes.

The deadline for the annual Bermuda Bravery Awards Association passed last Friday with only five names submitted, but association president Mark Selley is convinced there are more deserving people out there.

"Despite all the tales we've heard over the airwaves, or read in the newspaper, during and after Hurricane Fabian, very few names have been put forward for recognition," said Mr. Selley, who revived the awards in 1996.

"I am more than a little disappointed that more names had not been submitted by the general public for official recognition.

"The awards committee will meet later this week to decide on this year's recipients and I am hopeful that even though the deadline for this year has passed, residents will not forget those who came to their assistance in times of need and will pick up a nomination form.

"The bravery awards committee will make a decision as to whether to include late-comers in this year's selection, or next year."

Bravery and life-saving awards are given out annually at an official ceremony at Government House for those residents who go beyond the call of duty in a rescue.

Recipients receive an embossed cedar plaque from the Governor stating their heroic deed.
