A 20-year-old man was fined $2,000 for crack possession in a high penalty zone in Magistrates' Court.

Michael Eugene Parsons, 20, of My Lord's Bay, Hamilton Parish pleaded guilty to cocaine possession intended for supply before Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister told the court that Police officers found Parsons with the drugs on Court Street within 300 feet of FOCUS drug treatment centre on December 8 of last year.

Government analysis of the drugs found on Parsons concluded the brown paper twists contained 1.77 grams of cocaine at 80 percent purity.

Mr. Bannister said the street value for the cocaine - sold as crack rocks at $50 per rock - was roughly $350.

Mr. Greaves fined Parsons $1,000 for the possession charge and an additional $1,000 for having the drugs in the high penalty zone near FOCUS.

He ordered Parsons pay the fines by October 26 or spend six months in prison.
