Bermuda participated in what is being termed a "historic" Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting in Canada recently.

The conference, which was held from August 30 to September 9, voted to amend the CPA's constitution to formally recognise the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians and to include its chairwoman on the CPA's executive committee.

The decision means that the 35-member executive committee now has six women members, the latest being the CWP's chairwoman Lindiwe Maseko a member of South Africa's Gauteng Province parliament. Bermuda's delegation was led by former Premier Jennifer Smith. Opposition MP Maxwell Burgess, Independent Sen. Walwyn Hughes and Clerk to the Legislature Shernette Wolffe rounded up the delegation. Senate President Alf Oughton attended as an observer, according to a Government statement.
