The ruling party will be discussing its response to the Broadcast Commission's decision on Premier Jennifer Smith's February speech, says interim party spokesman Walter Roban.

"I can confirm to you that it was not discussed by the Central Committee last week but there will be a discussion about it - it is on the agenda for the Central Committee to discuss," Mr. Roban said.

Last month the Broadcast Commission issued its ruling on the speech saying it was not a Government broadcast.

The Opposition United Bermuda Party (UBP), which had asked the Commission for a decision, called on the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) to pay back to the Consolidated Fund the money spent on the 12 minute broadcast.

In February, the Premier called for national solidarity and urged Bermudians to make a personal pledge to support the Island in its efforts to resurrect tourism and survive post September 11 global realities.

She also criticised Shadow Tourism Minister David Dodwell in the speech which was broadcast on both television stations.

UBP leader Dr. Grant Gibbons said at the time that the taxpayer should not have to pay the bill if the broadcast was political.
