People are being urged to hang a ribbon from a tree in appreciation of the workers who have helped to restore and rebuild the Island this week following Hurricane Fabian.

An e-mail has been circulating asking people to support The Bermuda Regiment, Fire Service, Works and Engineering staff, Belco and Police by placing a ribbon in a prominent place.

The e-mail said: "The worst of it seems to be over. Some of us are still without power, but we are struggling through. I really feel that it is time to show our appreciation to all of those people who are working so diligently to put our Island home back together.

"Did you know that the work to clear our roads and make them safe started at 3 a.m. on Saturday morning and the crews worked a 24-hour shift?

"They were there in spite of the fact that their homes and families probably needed them. It is hard to find a way to show our appreciation to those who are still out there working for us.

"We could really show those men and women who are out there how much what they are doing means to us. So, hang a ribbon today to say thanks."

And the e-mail said besides showing the workers how appreciated they were, the ribbons would add a splash of colour to the Island, which was now devoid of flowers and much greenery since Fabian hit last week.

The circular adds: "How pretty the Island would look again if everyone hung a ribbon from a tree to say thank you to those who have worked so hard to help us."
