Bermudians were praised last night for the way they soldiered on to put the Island back on its feet.

Public Safety Minister Randy Horton, Premier Alex Scott and Deputy Governor Nick Carter were bowled over the the heroic efforts to clear the roads and help neighbours.

Mr. Horton said: "How proud we are of Bermudians, Bermudians who we might say came to the wicket and performed at a level they have never performed at in these dire circumstances.

"We have travelled the Island, been to the east and the west, and down along Middle Road, stopped at the side of the roads, and the things we have seen have just made us so proud.

"First there was the work ethic of our Bermudians who are determined to see the Island back the way it was before Fabian came.

"I want to thank each and every Bermudian who has helped, and in particular, the Bermuda Regiment, Works and Engineering, Parks and the Police.

"What they have been able to achieve in the last couple of days has been pleasing to the Premier and every single person in this country.

"To Bermudians, we say 'thank you and continue to be the fine people you are' and provide the support for neighbours that you've been providing in this crisis."

Mr. Carter added: "I continue to be overwhelmed by the spirit of dogged determination, co-operation, even zealousness displayed by Bermudians.

"They have shown how determined they are and dedicated to bringing the Island back to the status quo as soon as possible."
