St. George's ferry dock is ready
Another fast ferry is on the way, Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown told The Royal Gazette yesterday.
Although he could not give a definite arrival date, Dr. Brown did say he hoped the waiting period for the third catamaran would be far less than that for the Serenity and Resolute. Dr. Brown revealed the news as his Ministry announced that a new dock in St. George's would be opened next Thursday. Located at Market Wharf, the newly constructed dock will replace the one being temporarily used on Ordnance Island.
"Right now we are using a side-loading facility, but the catamarans are designed for bow-loading (front-loading)," said Marine and Ports director Barry Coupland. "Now this dock is identical to those in Dockyard, Rockaway, and Albouy's Point." While he could not confirm whether or not this would mean that the ferry service to St. George's would extend beyond November, Dr. Brown said a decision could only be made once the studies were conducted.
