Where are all Bermuda?s heroes?

The Bermuda Bravery Awards Association is calling on the public to nominate the heroes they know for this year?s Bermuda Bravery Awards, to be held at the end of October or early November.

Bravery and life-saving awards are given out annually at an official ceremony at Government House for residents who go beyond the call of duty in a rescue. Recipients receive an embossed cedar plaque from the Governor stating their heroic deed.

Nominations can be sent in written format to chairman Mark Selley at Ship?s Bow, 4 Keith Hall Road, Warwick, WK 06. Mr. Selley can also be contacted by phone on 236-0037.

?We are only as successful as the nominations that come in,? Mr. Selley, who took over the awards in 1993 from the Police, said.

?We are not a committee that nominates, we just do the paperwork and go through the selection process ? it?s up to the public.?

Past recipients have included people rushing into burning houses to save neighbours, rescuing people from the water, and a Policeman who helped re-capture a prisoner from Devonshire Marsh as well as arresting a man just minutes after he stabbed a tourist.
