UBP: ?The workers deserve far better?
Works Minister Ashfield DeVent's press conference amounted to "pathetic waffle", according to the Opposition United Bermuda Party.
Mr. DeVent "did not divulge anything that should have been easily recognizable a year ago, with astute observation," said Pat Gordon-Pamplin.
"The workers at the site can be assured of one week's pay, from August 16-24, and hopefully a job when and if Government gets this project right. Our hearts go out to those workers who clearly must be disappointed in Government's inability to effectively manage the site, and for the Premier's choice to send two inexperienced Ministers to face the press and the public, when the responsibility for this debacle was entirely his."
She added that the UBP was waiting further information.
"Had Premier Scott been honest with himself and the public, this situation would have been made clear over a year ago and an effective transition could have been arranged, with minimal fallout to the workers.
"Today's announcement, late in the day, serves only to cause a weekend of utter frustration and distress for workers who deserve far better."
