Ten new public buses are on their way to Bermuda, commuters will be happy to learn.

The Ministry of Transport announced yesterday that the buses will be arriving on the Island in the new few weeks.

It was hoped the buses would be in Bermuda this week, however their arrival has been delayed.

The ten buses are made by Goppell Industries, a European company specialising in public transportation.

"The new buses will have easier access with a single step entry as opposed to the traditional two-step entry," government spokesperson Nea Talbot said yesterday.

The buses have a maximum capacity of 75 people and will all be air-conditioned and have cushioned seats.

And two of the ten are special prototypes the Ministry is testing.

These buses will have a significantly different body style than the pink PTB buses road users are accustomed to, The Royal Gazette was told.

Finance Minister Eugene Cox allocated $1.5 million in the last budget to purchase the new buses and upgrade the Hamilton bus terminal.
