Security firm gives gift of peace of mind to seniors

Seniors can have safety at the touch of a button now that Bermuda Security Group has joined forces with Age Concern Bermuda to donate ten security systems providing round-the-clock surveillance.

The security systems, known as GE CareGaurd Personal Emergency Response Systems, each come with free lifetime monitoring and are intended for seniors who are unable to be cared for by family or friends 24 hours a day.

Bermuda Security Group will install the systems and monitor them from a local monitoring station. The company will also provide the selected seniors with a water-resistant call button, which should be worn around the neck or the wrist.

Reception will be possible even when the senior is immediately outside of the home, said the company, and the security system can be installed anywhere there is a working phone line.

The safety of seniors has been a major issue for Age Concern Bermuda especially after several recent acts of violence towards the elderly on the Island.

Executive director Claudette Fleming was thrilled with the donation and particularly with Bermuda Security Group?s decision to help seniors maintain safety.

?Bermuda Security Group wanted to do something concrete for seniors, those who have built this country, and we believe this donation makes an important contribution to their personal security,? Mrs. Fleming said.

Doug Hines, sales and marketing manager for Bermuda Security Group said the company knew approaching Age Concern was the best way to reach out to seniors.

?We selected Age Concern as the vehicle for getting this to seniors because we value their work in the community,? he said.

The security systems represent one aspect of a new residential security plan Bermuda Security Group offers to residents and their families.

Seniors or families interested in this safety product should contact Age Concern Bermuda for further information.
