The United Bermuda Party (UBP) will select a deputy leader, or two, next week.

Party spokesman Jamahl Simmons yesterday confirmed that the selection will take place but would not say which of the Opposition MPs were interested.

"We will confirm the selection in due course," he said.

The party had two deputy leaders in the months before the July 24 General Election - Erwin Adderley and David Dodwell.

Mr. Adderley is no longer an MP having lost the contest to represent Pembroke West Central to the Progressive Labour Party's Neletha Butterfield.

The Royal Gazette understands that the candidates for the deputy leadership are Cole Simons, Michael Dunkley, Maxwell Burgess and Wayne Furbert.

Yesterday Mr. Furbert confirmed that he had been asked to throw his hat in the ring. "If the party wants me, I'll do my best to serve and take the party in a stronger direction and ensure that above all, Bermuda comes first and the party has to come second."
