Gwyneth Rawlins has been appointed the interim chairperson of the United Bermuda Party.

Ms Rawlins told The Royal Gazette that the appointment is temporary until the party's annual general meeting in November chooses a permanent chairperson to replace Wayne Furbert who was elected to parliament in last month's general election.

Ms Rawlins, an insurance executive with the Argus Group, has been the party's secretary since June 2001 and was a candidate for Warwick South Central in the general election.

“I'm willing to serve in whatever capacity that I can in support of the party,” she said.

“Having run in the election my immediate aspiration was to continue to canvass the area and really get to talk more with the constituents. I still intend to do that in spite of the fact that I'm interim chairman because the people of this country and their needs are very important to me.”

As chairpersonMs Rawlins will see to the smooth running of the party's day to day operations.
