Caricom motion retabled in the House of Assembly

Premier Jennifer Smith re-tabled the Caricom motion in the House of Assembly Wednesday after it had dropped off the order sheet.

The motion, seeking support of Government's bid to have Bermuda join the regional body as an associate member, was originally expected to be debated July 26. Instead, a discussion paper was tabled and the motion expired.

It later emerged that support from the ruling party's backbenches was uncertain. The Opposition United Bermuda Party (UBP) has already said it would not support the motion when it comes up for debate.
