Harvey misses Island

Bermuda was left virtually unscathed today after Tropical Storm Harvey swung some 40 miles to the south of the Island.

But the Bermuda Weather Service warned that winds would still reach tropical storm force at times, especially in gusty squalls. Harvey's closest point of the approach was at 5 a.m. with winds up to 40 knots. The Weather Service also said that up to two inches of rain fell on the Island.

Conditions will gradually improve into the weekend as Harvey moves to the northeast.

All Government offices and businesses were operating this morning while buses were also running on schedule.

The Causeway, which links St. George's and the Airport to the rest of the Island, was also open. It is closed when winds become too high.
