The United Bermuda Party's Trevor Moniz was laid back after learning that he had won his constituency last night.

Still, the ten-year veteran of the House of Assembly was relieved when he was informed of his victory.

He said: "The people are never wrong - they just choose who they want."

His opponent, Scott Simmons of the PLP, also showed confidence throughout the day.

"I am fully confident about winning this," Mr. Simmons had said earlier in the day. "Needless to say, it could go either way."

Around noon, both candidates were in high spirits, greeting and reintroducing themselves to voters.

Throughout the day, Mr. Moniz had said he remained "quietly confident".

On an upbeat note, Mr. Simmons said it was "obvious to me that Bermudians love their country.

"The whole nature of this election has been positive."

Mr. Simmons, a first time candidate, recieved much support from Smith's West voters only trailing behind by 109 votes to Trevor Moniz, who won with 481 votes.

Mr. Moniz of the UBP recieved 56.39 percent of the votes while 43.61 percent went to Scott Simmons of the PLP.

Neither Mr. Moniz or his opponent seemed surprised by the results.
