Opposition parliamentarians pounced on what they said was a flawed lease of the Stonington Beach Hotel during yesterday?s motion to adjourn.

MP John Barritt pointed out that the lease, which was criticised in a special report by the Auditor General, was not even tabled in the House of Assembly, did not have a guarantor or a performance bond.

Quoting from the report which was tabled yesterday, he said Government would be without recourse should Coco Reef, the lessee, not stick to its terms. And referring to Government?s response, in the report, that the matters were being addressed in a proposed addendum to the lease, Mr. Barritt said ?What if they don?t agree to the addendum? Jolly good luck to him.?

He noted that Government had admitted that the lease was not vetted by the Attorney General, but had explained that a representative of the Attorney General?s Chambers was part of the Transition Committee which oversaw the transfer of the property to the Ministry of Tourism.

?Who wrote this lease, who is responsible for it? Somebody should be standing up and taking responsibility,? Mr. Barritt said. ?Somebody is asleep at the wheel or somebody is unconscious.?
