A 20-foot powercraft, Striker 1, with two locals on board had to be towed into to Bailey's Bay after it started taking on water, Harbour Radio reported yesterday. The identities of the occupants were unavailable by press time last night. But Harbour Radio reported that it started to take on water at just before 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon and a marine police boat was recruited from Hamilton to rescue the craft.

Power outages hit homes in East End

Early morning power cuts hit more than 3,000 East End residents yesterday. The 2.13 a.m. outages were blamed on a high voltage cable fault on the system feeding from Flatts through to Mullet Bay.

The Bermuda Electric Light Company said the problem was made worse by the failure of a breaker to trip at the Mullet Bay substation. Blackouts occurred in Harrington Sound, Tucker's Town and South Side in St. David's.

A Belco spokesman said four substations lost supply, affecting about 3,500 customers, but power was restored by 4.25 a.m.
