Ferry schedules hit by remodelling
Ferry commuters from the Western parishes will have to adjust their travel schedules today, Government has announced.
While Cavello Bay passengers will be delighted the popular ferry stop will be reopening today, Watford Bridge passengers have to make alternative plans as their ferry stop will be closing for remodelling.
Marine and Ports said remodelling work at Cavello Bay ferry dock is complete and that non-stop ferry service will begin there today morning at 7.25.
Construction on Cavello Bay has been underway since mid-April to give catamaran-style ferries more room for safe berthing at the ferry stop and allow for direct ferry service to Hamilton.
While remodelling was underway, commuters were provided with a minibus service from Scott?s Hill and Sound View Road, which will now be discontinued.
The Watford Bridge ferry stop will be closed for the next 12 weeks, however, in order for similar changes to be made there.
But Government has added a free minibus service to that area which will start running from Cochrane Road to Cavello Bay today, stopping at Watford Bridge.
?Members of the public are reminded that the restructuring of the ferry service is intended to upgrade the ferry docks and provide more direct ferry service to Hamilton,? a Government Press release said.
?The Ministry wishes to take this opportunity to thank its valued customers for their patience during this restructuring of the ferry service.?
Morning departures from Cavello Bay will now leave at 7.25, 8.25 and 9.25 a.m. and proceed directly to Hamilton.
In the afternoon, catamaran ferries will leave Hamilton for Cavello Bay at 4.15, 5.30 and 6.30 p.m.
The blue mono-hull ferries will continue to operate midday trips making various stops.
