The Nordic Empress made its first return to Bermuda yesterday after being fixed up after it was crippled by fire.

The ship had to abort its journey to New York two weeks ago when a blaze broke out in the engine room.

More than 80 electricians worked long hours installing new cables into the vessel.

Nordic Empress staff captain Erik Bredhe said yesterday's journey from New York had gone smoothly.

He said: "We have done very well, there have been no major problems. There are some small things being worked on. We have been very lucky there's no doubt about it.'

American tourists Darryl Glover and Debra White said there had been no problems on board.

But Ms White added: "The trip was a little choppy."

Steve Scheick from Long Island said: "The trip was excellent - everything was up to the Royal Caribbean standard."
