Senior clubbed in brutal night-time robbery

A senior was smashed in the head and robbed of hundreds of dollars by a club-wielding robber on Tuesday night.

The brutal attack took place on Barrack Close, St. George?s at about 10.30 p.m.

The 61-year-old victim was on his way home after locking up at the Royal Artillery Association (RAA) on Grenadier Lane when the teenage robber pounced. The senior was carrying a maroon bank bag containing the days earnings from the association ? more than $350 in cash and a number of cheques.

A Police spokesman said: ?As he approached his residence he was hit over the head with a piece of wood, causing him to drop the bank bag.

?While on the ground the victim attempted to prevent the assailant from stealing the bank bag but the culprit again struck him about the head with the piece of wood before grabbing the bank bag and making good his escape on foot in a westerly direction.?

The senior lost two teeth in the beating but did not need hospital treatment.

The attacker is described as a slim dark skinned male in his mid to late teens who was wearing a black hooded jacket and dark coloured jeans.

Police are asking anyone with any information about this incident to contact the St.George?s Criminal Investigation Unit on 297-1122.
