A Jamaican illegal immigrant will be deported home at the taxpayer's expense.

Hubert Hall, 48, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to overstaying his 21-day visit to the Island by almost nine months.

Hall was arrested at a private home after Police were tipped off that he had stayed past his 21-day limit in Bermuda.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill said Hall arrived on the Island on September 6, 2002 and was arrested on Thursday.

He told Police that he was earning money for his girlfriend and four children in Jamaica. They promised to help transport him off the Island but the money never came. He had also left his passport with a friend who did not come to court to meet him yesterday.

Ms Dill asked that he be remanded in custody until his passport could be found and he could be flown back to Jamaica.

"Remanded in custody pending deportation," said Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.

Normally, deportations are paid for by Government and require that one to two Police officers escort the deportee back to his or her country.
