Tourism gives majorettes a boost toward Florida trip

A majorettes and drum group heading for Florida to perform at Disney World have been given $5,000 from the Tourism Ministry to assist them with their overseas trip.

The Pembroke Hamilton Club Majorettes and Drum Corps will be performing at Disney World on July 3 and Universal Studios on July 4.

It is the second time the group has performed at Disney World and will be their first at Universal Studios. Under the direction of Tawana Lee and Bettyann Nolan, a group of 32 performers will travel to Orlando.

Presenting the group with the financial assistance, Tourism Minister Dr. Ewart Brown, said: "The PHC Majorettes and Drum Corps is a non-profit organisation, and we at the Ministry are delighted to be able to provide for such a worthwhile initiative.

"They have entertained crowds on numerous occasions here in Bermuda and I know they will be fine ambassadors when they travel to Florida."

Accepting the gift, Ms Lee said: "Only through our many fundraising efforts, and support of the Ministry and the general public, are our youth fortunate enough to experience such a wonderful adventure. We are grateful to each and every individual and community organisations that has aided us in such a worthy cause."
