Mother charged with causing death of baby
After nearly six years of investigation, an American woman married to a Bermudian has been charged with causing the death of a ten-month-old.
In Magistrates' Court on Friday Renee Erma Daniels, 35, of Verdmont Valley View, Smith's was charged with killing Samira M. Daniels on a date between November 23 and 24 in 1998.
Daniels cried in the dock while a man understood to be her Bermudian husband held his head in his hands a short distance away.
Because of the seriousness of the charges, Daniels' case must be heard in Supreme Court and she did not have to enter a plea.
Daniels, represented by lawyer Richard Hector, was released on $15,000 bail with two sureties in a like amount, and was ordered to surrender all travel documents.
She must also report to Hamilton Police Station twice a week.
