A local Christian has distanced herself from controversial American prophet Alicia Perry, who had predicted in April that Bermuda would be struck by a tidal wave because of its sinfulness.

Flyers were circulated in Bermuda saying Ms Perry would be speaking at Wings of Love presentations, but the organisation's Rachel Paquette said she did not know her group would be linked to the seminars.

Ms Paquette said the flyers stated that she would be hosting the workshops, but that she told Ms Perry she would not have time to do this.

Ms Paquette said she also had no idea Ms Perry had met Premier Jennifer Smith.

And she said her "heart sank" when she read in the Bermuda Sun in April that Ms Perry, from Washington DC, had predicted the Island would be hit by a tidal wave in 30 days unless it repented from sin.

Ms Paquette said: "Alicia called from the US to tell me she was bringing a group of people to do a workshop in Bermuda and stated it would be free of charge.

"She made contact with some of the local women in Bermuda and they made arrangements to have the meetings at CedarBridge.

"Alicia Perry had the flyers sent to Bermuda and distributed them around the Island through the mail.

"I was not aware of this until the flyer was given to me by a friend who was concerned of the contents because if said `Wings of Love presents' and was hosted by us.

"I felt very uneasy about the inaccuracy of the information that was printed on the flyer. I had no idea that Alicia was going to do this.

"I then called her long distance a few days before she arrived in Bermuda and explained to her my concerns about the content of the flyer.

"I had explained long ago to Alicia that I would not be able to get involved in any workshops because of my work schedules and commitments. It was too late to retract the information sent out in Bermuda. I had not seen Alicia during her time in Bermuda and I had no idea Alicia had made arrangements to see the Premier or any of the other leaders.

"When I read the prophesy in the newspaper, my heart sank. I was shocked because the story was placed on the front page of the newspaper. I was not contacted by any reporters during the time. Individuals that knew me very well called to express their concerns. Bermuda is my home and I love this country more than you know.

"I am still treading water and trusting God to get me through all the accusations. I am not here to put down Alicia Perry; we all make mistakes.

"As for the tidal wave, it may be a wave of God's glory manifested in Bermuda through His people. God's desire is not to destroy but to reconcile and restore His creation."
