A regiment recruit has been jailed for six months after pleading guilty to non-attendance.

John Paul Samuels, 21, of Mount Hill, Pembroke went AWOL on May 27, May 31 and June 1.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke revealed Samuels, who joined the Regiment in late 2001, had recently been given a three-month sentence, suspended for his remaining time in the army after missing duty earlier in May.

Samuels said he had been attending Regiment in the mornings but had personal business to attend to in the afternoons and said he was in danger of losing his home.

Acting Senior Magistrate William Francis activated the suspended three-month sentence and added on another three-month sentence for the further offences.

Speed limits will be restricted to 15 km/h over Watford Bridge, Sandys until July 23 while maintenance work is carried out.
