Traffic was backed up for hours and a driver was taken to hospital when a minibus and a van collided in Sandys on Monday morning.

The accident occurred at the base of Scaur Hill and caused a traffic jam running back to Hitching Post. Eight packed buses were caught up in the jam.

Public Transport Board spokesman Dan Simmons said: "Whenever accidents happen and Police are not able to clear the road it wreaks havoc with our schedule."

A Police spokesman said the accident, which occurred around 9.45 a.m. took place after a car had turned out from a yard.

"One of the drivers was taken to hospital and treated for injuries which don't appear to be life threatening," the spokesman said.
