A yacht crew was plucked out of the sea after their rudder broke 366 miles north-north-west of the Island.

The 48-foot yacht Sedina was en route yacht from Newport to Bermuda when it ran into trouble on Tuesday.

They were picked up later the same day by the Merrie Miss, a 38 foot yacht, which was also en route to the Island.

A Harbour Radio spokesman said the crew were expected to arrive some time this morning.

A team of 21 specialised welders has been brought in to carry out tube replacements at Tynes Bay incinerator.

The welders from Norcross, Georgia, and inspectors are placing tubes which carry pressurised water which is converted into steam to turn an electricity turbine.

“This is a very, very specialised job as the welders have to be trained and certified in dealing with pressurised tubes,” said Works and Engineering Permanent Secretary Dr. Derrick Binns.

He said the three week job is expected to be completed at the end of the month.

An inspector from Government's insurance company will be supervising the work to ensure it is carried out properly.

Dr Binns said the tubes had to be maintained on a regular basis for safety reasons.

US Airways has launched a seat sale with fares to the United States from as low as $364.

The $364 fare is for a roundtrip to Boston, which the airline began serving year round earlier this month.

Other fares in the sale - which is valid for travel from May 23 to August 30 - are Philadelphia ($371); New York La Guardia ($383); Fort Lauderdale ($399); Washington Ronald Reagan ($405); Baltimore/Washington International ($405); Charlotte ($421); Orlando ($432); Tampa ($432); and Miami ($464).

Tickets must be bought by June 2, and the Fort Lauderdale service does not begin until June 14.
